★ A beautiful follis of Constantine II with an attractive light brown patina ★
Constantine II, as Caesar, 316-337. Follis (Bronze, 17 mm, 2.25 g, 6 h), Antiochia, July 326. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to left. Rev. CONSTAN/TINVS / CAESAR / SMANTA in four lines; above, star; below, pellet. RIC 59. A lovely piece with an attractive light brown patina. Thin flan crack and with very minor roughness on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
From the collection of Dr. L. Ramskold, ex Arsantiqua 1, 3 November 2000, 441 and Grigoli 8, 16 November 1996, 570.
The officinae striking for Constantine Caesar were A, B, Γ, Δ, Є, and H, although not all at the same time. Of these, officina Γ struck only for a short time and was unknown to Bruun (and therefore absent in RIC VII).
