Description

IONIA. Ephesus. Philip I, 244-249. Hexassarion (Bronze, 38 mm, 17.68 g, 7 h). ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΙΟΥ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟϹ ΑΥ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Philip I to right, seen from behind. Rev. ЄΦЄϹΙΩΝ ΤΡΙϹ ΝЄΟΚΟΡΩΝ The city-founder Androklos, on the left, standing right, holding spear in his left hand and clasping his right with Alexander III 'the Great', on the right, standing left and holding scepter; between them, boar's head. Karwiese 942. RPC VIII online ID 21879. Extremely rare, apparently the second known example. Somewhat rough and with thick deposits, otherwise, fine.
