BITHYNIA. Nicaea. Commodus, 177-192. Hemiassarion (Bronze, 17 mm, 2.77 g, 6 h). [ΑY Κ ΚOΜOΔOϹ ΑΝΤΩΝΙΝ] Laureate head of Commodus to right. Rev. [ΑΛЄΞΑΝ]ΔΡΟΝ ΝΙΚΑΙЄΙϹ Diademed head of Alexander III 'the Great' to right. RG 287. RPC IV.1 online 5131. Very rare. Rough and with some deposits, otherwise, fine.

From a European collection, formed before 2005.

The inhabitants of Nicaea claimed a whole array of gods and historical figures as their ancestors, the most famous of which probably was Alexander III (336-323 BC), the great Macedonian king.
