Description

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Obol (Silver, 13 mm, 0.89 g, 9 h), Susa, struck under Seleukos I, circa 311-305. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. [A]ΛEΞANΔΡ[OY] Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, wreath above horned head of a horse left; below throne, TI. Price 3870. SC 171. Very rare. Somewhat porous, otherwise, very fine.
