MIDDLE DANUBE. Eravisci (?). Mid to late 1st century BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.66 g, 5 h), imitating a denarius of Q. Pomponius Musa from 56 BC. Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. Q•POMPONI / MVSA Erato, the Muse of Erotic Poetry, standing front, head to right, wearing long flowing tunic and peplum, holding plectrum in her right hand and lyre in her left. Cf. Babelon (Pomponia) 17, Crawford 410/7d and Sydenham 820a (for prototype). Extremely rare. Light corrosion and with some marks, otherwise, very fine.
