Description

GEORGIA. Kingdom. T’amar, Queen Regnant, 1184-1213. AE (Bronze, 26 mm, 7.46 g, 12 h), dated 420 in Georgian years, counted using the Paschal cycle = AD 1200. Large symbol, probably the sign of the Bagratid family, in center flanked by initials of Queen Tamar and her second husband David Soslan in Mtavruli letter; in four corners, 'koronikonsa 420' ('in the year 420' in Georgian); below, countermark. Rev. 'Queen of queens / Glory of the World and Faith / Tamar, daughter of Giorgi / champion of the Messiah' (in Kufic) in four lines; to lower right, countermark. Bennett, 175. Attractive earthen highlights. Some light scratches, otherwise, about very fine.
