Description

PHRYGIA. Metropolis. Philip I, 244-249. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 32 mm, 16.55 g, 6 h). ΑΥΤ Κ Μ ΙΟΥ ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΝ Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Philip I to right, seen from behind and holding spear and shield decorated with gorgorneion. Rev. ΜΗΤΡΟΠΟΛЄΙΤΩΝ - ΦΡΥΓ Kybele seated to left on throne flanked by lions, holding patera in her right hand and leaning left on tympanon. RPC VIII online ID 20611. SNG von Aulock 3883. Very rare. Some deposits and with minor flan faults on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.
