★ Extremely rare, apparently the second known example ★

PHRYGIA. Laodicea ad Lycum. Caracalla, 198-217. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 33 mm, 15.27 g, 7 h), 215-216. AYT K M AYP ANTΩNЄINOC Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Caracalla to right; before, countermark: monogram of PH within circular incuse. Rev. ΛAOΔIKЄΩN NЄΩKOPΩN ΔOΓΜΑΤΙ CYNΚ/ΛHT/OY Two distyle temples, seen in perspective, set on high podiums and facing each other. BMC -, cf. 242 = Burrell 12a (Elagabalus). CNG 97 (2014), 477. SNG Leypold -. SNG München -. SNG Copenhagen -. SNG von Aulock -. For countermark, Howgego 631. Extremely rare, apparently the second known example. Some deposits, otherwise, good fine.

'δόγματι συγκλήτου' translates as 'by decree of the Senate'. It is the Greek rendering of the Latin term senatus consulto and refers to a decree by the Roman senate to bestow the neocorate on Laodicea ad Lycum during Caracalla's visit to the city in 215-216.
