★ An attractive tetrassarion of Trajan from Hierapolis of excellent style ★
PHRYGIA. Hierapolis. Trajan, 98-117. Tetrassarion (Bronze, 30 mm, 19.00 g, 12 h). ΑΥ ΚΑΙ ΘЄΟΥ ΥΩ ΝЄΡΒΑ ΤΡΑΙΑΝΩ ϹЄ ΓЄΡΜΑ Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Trajan to left, seen from behind. Rev. ΙЄΡΑΠΟΛЄΙΤΩΝ On the left, Athena standing right, holding spear in her right hand and placing her left on shield set on ground; on the right, Hermes standing front, head to left, holding purse in her right hand and kerykeion in her left. BMC 129. RPC III 2344. A beautiful piece of excellent style with an attractive dark patina. Minor weakness on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.
