SASANIAN KINGS. Bahram IV, 388-399. Drachm (Silver, 25 mm, 3.52 g, 3 h), a contemporary imitation struck by the Kidarites in Taxila, circa 390. Draped bust of Bahram IV, to right, wearing elaborate crown with korymbos; around, illegible legend. Rev. Fire altar flanked by two attendants, resembling two fire altars themselves; around illegible legend. SNS III, pl. 33, A1. Zeno-204946 ( this coin ). Struck from somewhat worn dies, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the collection of Dr. D. Löer, ex Heritage Europe 60, 17 November 2018, 6255.

This rare and interesting issue was probably struck in Taxila during the Kidarite occupation of the city in circa 390. The Kidarites were a belligerent Hunnic tribe that were dreaded both by the Sasanians in the west and the Gupta Empire in the east.
