Description

BAKTRIA, Greco-Baktrian Kingdom. Apollodotos I, circa 174-165 BC. AE (Bronze, 23x23 mm, 9.70 g, 6 h), Indian standard, uncertain mint in Paropamisadai or Gandhara. BAΣIΛE[ΩΣ AΠOΛΛOΔOTO]Y ΣΩTHPOΣ Apollo standing facing, holding arrow in his right hand and bow in his left. Rev. 'Maharajasa Apaladatasa tradarasa' (' of the Great King Apollodotos the Savior' in Karoshti) Tripod within beaded rectangular border; to right, monogram. Bopearachchi 6G. HGC 12, 120. Harshly cleaned and corroded. Very fine.
