Description

PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Ptolemy II Philadelphos, 285-246 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 14.09 g, 12 h), Tyre, circa 274. Diademed head of Ptolemy I to right, wearing aegis around neck. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - [ΠΤΟ]ΛΕΜΑΙΟΥ Eagle with closed wings standing left on thunderbolt; to left, monogram of TYP above club. CPE 561. SNG Copenhagen 482-3. Svoronos 644. Minor roughness and the obverse struck from a somewhat worn die, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Dr. D. Löer, formed since the 1970s, privately acquired from Frank S. Robinson and previously privately acquired from Pegasi (with original dealer's ticket).
