★ A beautiful drachm from Massalia ★

GAUL. Massalia. Circa 90-50 BC. Drachm (Silver, 17 mm, 2.75 g, 6 h). Draped bust of Artemis to right, wearing stephane, triple-pendant earring and necklace; bow and quiver over her shoulder; to right, Β. Rev. ΜΑΣΣΑ Lion walking right; to right, Κ; in exergue, ΕΛΚ. Depeyrot, Marseille, 55.25. Maurel 695. A clear, lightly toned and very attractive example. The reverse struck very slightly off center, otherwise, extremely fine.
