Description

John II Comnenus, 1118-1143. Tetarteron (Bronze, 19 mm, 4.15 g, 6 h), Constantinopolis, circa 1122-1137. IC - XC Christ, nimbate, standing facing on dais, wearing pallium and colobium, holding book of Gospels in his left hand. Rev. + IⲰ ΔЄCΠΟΤ ΤⲰ ΠΟΡΦVΡΟΓΝΤ John II standing facing, wearing crown and loros, holding scepter cruciger in his right hand and globus cruciger in his left. DOC 12a. SB 1945. The obverse a bit weak, otherwise, extremely fine.
