Description

Magnus Maximus, 383-388. Siliqua (Silver, 17 mm, 1.86 g, 12 h), Treveri. D N MAG MAX-IMVS P F AVG Pearl-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Magnus Maximus to right. Rev. VIRTVS RO-MANORVM / TRPS Roma seated facing on throne, head to left, holding globe in her right hand and inverted spear in her left. RIC 84b. RSC 20†a. Nicely toned. Struck from a somewhat worn obverse die, otherwise, very fine.

From a collection formed in the Rhineland from the late 1970s to the late 1990s, privately acquired from Dr. Walter Kimpel (with original dealer's ticket).
