Description

★ Beautifully toned and of fine style ★

T. Carisius, 46 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.86 g, 9 h), Rome. Head of the Sibyl Herophile to right, hair elaborately decorated with jewels and enclosed in a sling and tied with band. Rev. T•CARISIVS / III•VIR Sphinx seated to right. Babelon (Carisia) 11. Crawford 464/1. RBW 1613. Sydenham 983a. Beautifully toned and of fine style. Minor areas of weakness and with a light scratch on the obverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.

From an American collection of Roman Republican and Imperatorial coins, ex Lanz 151, 30 June 2011, 654 (with collector's ticket).
