Description

★ A very rare denarius of M. Plaetorius M.f. Cestianus ★

M. Plaetorius M.f. Cestianus, 57 BC. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.94 g, 6 h), Rome. Draped female bust to left, wearing winged diadem; behind, flower (?). Rev. Pediment of temple decorated with anguipede figure standing front, raising its right hand and holding club (?) in its left, entablature inscribed M• PL AE TORI; below, CEST•S C. Babelon (Plaetoria) 9. Crawford 405/1b. RBW 1437. Sydenham 800a. Very rare. Minor flan faults and with die breaks on the obverse, otherwise, nearly very fine.

From an American collection of Roman Republican and Imperatorial coins, ex Lanz 123, 30 May 2005, 320 (with collector's and original dealer's tickets).
