Description

L. Torquatus, 58 BC. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 3.62 g, 6 h), Rome. Head of Sibyl to right, wearing ivy wreath; below, SIBYLLA. Rev. L•TORQVAT - III•VIR Tripod surmounted by an amphora between two stars; all within torque. Babelon (Pomponia) 12. Crawford 411/1b. RBW 1490. Sydenham 835a. Somewhat porous and with traces of cleaning and a banker's mark on the obverse, otherwise, good fine.

From an American collection of Roman Republican and Imperatorial coins, ex Gorny & Mosch 152, 10 October 2006, 1891 (with original ticket), Gorny & Mosch 147, 7 March 2006, 1913 and Gorny & Mosch 134, 11 October 2004, 2477 (with collector's ticket).
