Description

M. Sergius Silus, 116-115 BC. Denarius (Silver, 17 mm, 3.78 g, 4 h), Rome. ROMA - EX•S•C• Head of Roma to right within laurel wreath, wearing winged helmet and pearl necklace; behind, star (mark of value). Rev. Q / M•SERGI / SILVS Helmeted horseman to left, holding sword and severed head in his left hand. Babelon (Sergia) 1. Crawford 286/1. RBW 1115. Sydenham 544. A beautifully toned example. Two minor scrapes on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.

From an American collection of Roman Republican and Imperatorial coins, privately acquired from Tom Cederlind (with original dealer's and old collector's tickets).
