Description

Furius Purpurio, 169-158 BC. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 3.65 g, 3 h), Rome. Head of Roma to right, wearing crested and winged helmet; behind, X (mark of value). Rev. PVR / ROMA (in linear frame) Luna driving galloping quadriga to right, holding scepter in her right hand and reins in both hands; above, murx shell. Babelon (Furia) 13. Crawford 187/1. RBW 797. Sydenham 424. Thin die break on the obverse and the reverse a bit weak, otherwise, good very fine.
