KINGS OF PONTOS. Mithradates VI Eupator, circa 120-63 BC. Stater (Gold, 19 mm, 8.25 g, 12 h), First Mithradatic War issue, in the name and types of Lysimachos of Thrace. Tomis, circa 88-86. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right, with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟ[Υ] Athena seated left, holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right hand and leaning with her left arm on shield; behind, transverse spear; in inner left field, monogram of HΔ and Y; on throne, TO; in exergue, ornate trident left. AMNG I 2477. Callataÿ p. 141, D1/R-. SNG Copenhagen 1090. A lustrous and sharp piece. The reverse struck slightly off center and with very light doubling, otherwise, virtually as struck.
