KUSHANO-SASANIANS. Hormizd I, circa 265-295. Dinar (Gold, 28 mm, 7.87 g, 12 h), uncertain mint in Baktria, probably Balkh. ΩΥPOMOZΔΟ OOZOPKO KOÞANO ÞAYO ('Hormizd the great, Kushan King' in Bactrian) Hormizd I standing front, head to left, wearing a lion-head crown with lotus blossom, holding trident in his left hand and sacrificing over lightes altar with his right; in field to left, trident; in field to right, tamgha. Rev. 'BORZAOANDO IAZADO' ('The exalted God' in Bactrian) The illustrious God (Shiva) standing facing with flaming hair, holding diadem in his right hand and trident in his left; behind, the bull Nandi, his companion, standing left. ANS Kushan 2154. Boldly struck and unusually complete. A few minor edge cracks around the edge, otherwise, good extremely fine.
