★ A nicely toned denarius of Augustus of fine style ★
Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. Denarius (Silver, 18 mm, 4.00 g, 4 h), L. Mescinius Rufus, moneyer, Rome, 16 BC. Laureate head of Augustus to right. Rev. L•MESCINIVS•RVFVS Mars, holding spear in his right hand and parazonium in his left, standing front on low pedestal inscribed S•P•Q•R / V•PR RE / CAES. BMC 86. Cohen 463. RIC 351. A nicely toned example of fine style. Light scratches and with three banker's marks on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.
