★ An interesting issue ★
SWITZERLAND. Basel, Bistum. Gerhard von Vuippens, 1310-1325. Vierzipfliger Pfennig (Silver, 16 mm, 0.22 g). Mitred bishop's head facing between two rosettes. Rev. Incuse of obverse. HMZ 1-246. Wiel. Basel 104. Nicely toned. Some light deposits, otherwise, very fine.
From the collection of Dr. Max Blaschegg (1930-2021, with collector’s ticket), privately acquired from Münzenstube Thun at the Zurich coin fair on 27 October 2012.
The low weight of this issue and the annulet on the bishop's mitre may indicate that it was struck either late in Gerhard's tenure, or perhaps in the years 1325-1328, when the bishopric was contested between Hartung Münch and Johann I.
