Description

GERMANY. Augsburg (Bistum). Udalschalk von Eschenlohe, 1184-1202. Bracteate (Silver, 23 mm, 0.70 g). Mitred bishop's bust facing, holding crosier in his right hand and cross in his left, surrounded by a ring of crescents and fleurs de lis. Rev. Incuse of obverse. Berger 2636. Steinh. 62. Slg. Bonh. 1906. Beautifully toned. Good very fine.

From the collection of Dr. Max Blaschegg (1930-2021, with collector’s ticket), privately acquired from Schweizerische Bankgesellschaft at the Basel coin fair on 31 January 1987.
