★ A boldly struck tram of Hetoum I ★
ARMENIA, Cilician Armenia. Royal. Hetoum I, 1226-1270. Tram (Silver, 24 mm, 3.00 g, 3 h), bilingual issue, acknowleding the Seljuk Sultan Kay Khusraw II, Sis, AH 637 = AD 1239/40. Hetoum on horseback riding right, head facing, holding lis-tipped scepter and reins; in field to left, cross; in upper field to right, crescent; in outer margin, 'Hetoum King of the Armenians' (in Armenian). Rev. 'The Supreme Sultan, Helper of the World and the Faith, Kay Khusraw ibn Kayqubad' in three lines in Arabic; around, date and mint. AC 323. Broome 1105. Izmirlier 428. Boldly struck and unusually attractive for the issue. Struck from slightly worn dies, otherwise, extremely fine.
