Description

Alexius I Comnenus, with Irene and John II. Tetarteron (Lead, 20 mm, 5.08 g, 11 h), Constantinopolis, 1092-93. [IC XC] - IⲰ ΔЄCΠOT Half-length figures of Christ, on the left, and John II, on the right, wearing loros, both holding labarum between them. Rev. AΛЄΞ[IⲰ - ЄIPHNH] Half-length figures of Alexius I and Irene, both holding a long cross. DOC 32. SB -. An unusual piece. The obverse struck somewhat off center, otherwise, very fine.
