Description

KINGS OF ARMENIA. Artavasdes II, 56-34 BC. Tetrachalkon (Bronze, 21 mm, 7.37 g, 11 h), Artaxarta. Draped bust of Artavasdes II to right, wearing five-pointed tiara decorated with star and eagles and tied with diadem; behind to left, A. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩN / [APTA]YAΣΔ[OY] Nike standing left, holding wreath in her right hand. Kovacs 167. Traces of overstriking, otherwise, fine.

From the collection of an Armenian businessman, acquired before 2021.

This coin was overstruck on an earlier issue of Apameia in Syria (HGC 9, 1419) with Zeus's head still visible on the obverse.
