Description

PAPHLAGONIA. Sinope. Ariarathes I of Cappadocia, circa 325 BC. Drachm (Silver, 20 mm, 5.11 g, 6 h), Persic standard. Head of the nymph Sinope to left, her hair bound in a sakkos, wearing triple-pendant earring and pearl necklace; to left, aphlaston. Rev. 𐡀𐡓𐡉𐡅𐡓𐡑 ('ariyrth' in Aramaic) Sea-eagle with spread wings standing on a dolphin to left. HGC 7, 434 var. (legend on obverse). SNG BM Black Sea 1459 var. (legend on obverse). SNG Stancomb 762. Two test cuts and the reverse double struck and with a flan crack, otherwise, good very fine.
