Description

LUCANIA. Herakleia. Circa 281-278 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 18 mm, 7.83 g, 11 h). [HPAKΛEIΩN] Head of Athena to right, wearing Corinthian helmet adorned with Skylla hurling a stone on the bowl; behind her neck, E. Rev. APIΣ Herakles standing facing, head to left, holding club in his right hand and bow and arrow in his left; lion skin draped over his left arm; to upper left, owl standing right. HN Italy 1385. Van Keuren 87. Clear and attractive. Harshly cleaned, otherwise, good extremely fine.
