CALABRIA. Tarentum. Circa 344-340 BC. Didrachm or Nomos (Silver, 21 mm, 7.86 g, 12 h). Nude youth on horseback left, holding bridles in his right hand and small round shield and spear in his left, preparing to vault from the horse; below, ⊣. Rev. ΤΑΡΑΣ Youthful oikist, nude, riding dolphin to left, holding Corinthian helmet in his right hand and resting his left on the dolphin; below, I above waves. Fischer-Bossert 653d ( this coin, V252/R505). HN Italy 876. Vlasto 437. A beautifully toned piece with an excellent pedigree. Minor graffito on the reverse and some scratches, otherwise, very fine.
