★ A beautifully toned tetradrachm of Ptolemy I struck on a broad flan ★
PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter, As satrap, 323-305 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 29 mm, 15.64 g, 1 h), first reduced standard, Alexandria, circa 306-300. Diademed head of the deified Alexander III to right, with horn of Zeus Ammon above his ear, wearing elephant skin headdress and aegis around his neck; small Δ on aegis. Rev. ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ Athena Alkidemos advancing right, brandishing spear with her right hand and holding shield in her left; to right, Corinthian helmet to right over monogram and eagle with closed wings standing right on thunderbolt. CPE 69. SNG Copenhagen 19. Svoronos 168. Struck on a broad flan and beautifully toned. Light doubling on the obverse and with a few light marks, otherwise, good very fine.
