Description

★ An extremely rare siliqua of Constantine II ★

Constantine II, 337-340. Siliqua (Silver, 20 mm, 3.60 g, 1 h), Siscia. CONSTANTI-NVS P F AVG Rosette-diademed, draped and cuirassed bust of Constantine II to right. Rev. GAVDIVM POPVLI ROMANI; in four lines within laurel wreath, SIC / XX / SIC / XXX; in exergue, SIS(globule over crescent). RIC 70. Very rare. Holed and with minor marks , otherwise, about very fine.

This coin forms part of a very rare issue of siliquae for the three imperial brothers, each with his proper vota : Constantine II has SIC XX SIC XXX, Constantius II SIC X SIC XX, and Constans, the youngest of the three, SIC V SIC X.
