★ Imitating Aspendos ★

KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Tetradrachm (Subaeratus, 31 mm, 14.43 g, 11 h), irregular mint, imitating Aspendos, circa 208/7-195/4. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. AΛEΞANΔPOY Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, AΣ. Cf. Price 2876ff (for prototype). A very well made contemporary forgery with intact silver plating. Good very fine.
