Description

LOW COUNTRIES. Groningen. Willem I, 1054-1076. Denar (Silver, 18 mm, 0.56 g, 5 h), struck in the name of king Heinrich III (1028-1056) or his son king Heinrich IV (1054-1105). ✠ HENRICVS RE Draped and crowned bust of Heinrich III or Heinrich IV facing. Rev. VVIIHEIHIVS Bare-headed and draped bust of bishop facing, head to right, holding crozier in his left hand; in field to right, cross. Dannenberg -, cf. 546a (for type with ringlet on the reverse). Ilisch -, cf. 18.4 (for type with ringlet on the reverse). Very rare with rosette on the reverse. Some areas of weakness, otherwise, extremely fine.
