CRUSADERS. Venetians in the Levant. Ducat (Gold, 20 mm, 3.52 g, 7 h), imitating Venice, uncertain mint, struck in the name of Antonio Veniero (1382-1400). ANTO VЄNЄRIO - •S•M•VЄNЄTI St. Mark standing right, holding book of Gospels in his left hand and presenting banner inscribed DVX to doge Antonio Veniero, kneeling to left and raising his head toward the saint. Rev. •SIT•T•XPЄ•DAT'•Q•TV RЄGIS•ISTЄ•DVCAT'• Christ, nimbate, standing facing in mandorla with nine stars, raising his right hand in benediction and holding book of Gospels in his left. Cf. Friedberg 1229 and Paolucci 1 (for prototype). Struck form a somewhat worn obverse die, otherwise, good very fine.
