MIDDLE DANUBE. Eravisci. Mid to late 1st century BC. Denarius (Silver, 20 mm, 4.38 g, 5 h), imitating a denarius of L. Marcius Philippus of 57 BC. Head of Roma to left, wearing winged helmet. Rev. Equestrian statue, raising right hand, set to right on aqueduct; below horse, a flower; to left and within the arches of the aqueduct, blundered legend. Dembski -. Lanz -. Extremely rare. From the Red Ox Collection and the collection of the Czech musician Adolf Picek (circa 1885-1978), and formerly in the possession of an Italian banker, whose life was saved by Mr. Picek in the Battles of the Piave River on the Italian Front in 1917-1918 and who presented his savior with 'four socks of old coins' in reward.
