★ An extremely rare tetradrachm of Antiochos Hierax from the collection of A. Houghton ★

SELEUKID KINGS OF SYRIA. Antiochos Hierax, circa 242-227 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 17.00 g, 1 h), Aigai in Aeolis. Diademed head of Antiochos II to right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - ANTIOXOY Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow in his right hand and resting his left on grounded bow; to left, monogram of ΘE above goat head to left and monogram of AP. CSE 632 ( this coin ). Houghton, Aegae, 21 ( this coin, A7/P2). SC pl. 43, 889.1 ( same dies ). WSM 1515. Extremely rare. The reverse struck slightly off center and hence with minor weakness, otherwise, very fine.
