Description

★ Pedigreed to 1926 ★

KINGS OF THRACE. Lysimachos, 305-281 BC. Stater (Gold, 18 mm, 8.53 g, 7 h), Byzantion, circa 270-early 260s. Diademed head of Alexander the Great to right with horn of Ammon over his ear. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΛΥΣΙΜΑΧΟΥ Athena seated left, holding Nike, crowning the king's name, in her right hand and leaning with her left arm on shield decorated with lion's head; behind, transverse spear; in inner left field, monogram; on throne, C-like symbol; in exergue, K. Müller -. Thompson 241 ('Pella'). A very well pedigreed piece of early Hellenistic style. Light marks, otherwise, about extremely fine.
