Description

★ A very rare dinar of Peroz I ★

SASANIAN KINGS. Peroz I, 457/9-484. Reduced Dinar (Gold, 21 mm, 3.70 g, 2 h), AY (Eran-Khwarrah-Shapur). MZDYSN BGY KDY PYLWCY ('Worshipper of Lord Mazda, 'God' King Peroz' in Pahlawi) Draped bust of Peroz I to right, wearing mural crown with frontal crescent and korymbos set on crescent. Rev. Fire altar flanked by two attendants; in upper field to left, five-pointed star; in upper field to right, crescent; in field to right, AY (name of the mint in Pahlawi); in field to left, blundered legend. SNS III, pl. 84, A18. Very rare. Struck from worn and corroded dies, otherwise, very fine.

From a North German collection of Central Asian gold coins, formed from the 1960s to 1980s.
