Description

INDIA, Post-Mauryan (Punjab). Taxila (local coinage). AE (Bronze, 13 mm, 1.06 g, 6 h), Taxila city state (Pushkalavati), circa 2nd-1st centuries BC. Three-arched hill surmounted by a crescent. Rev. Tree in railing flanked by two adorants; above, hill, taurine, swastika and Indra-Dhvaja. Leu Numismatik Web Auction 13 (2020), 647. Very rare. Minor deposits, otherwise, about very fine.

This reverse of this issue shows two adorants worshipping a sacred tree. They might represent religious figures such as the six-headed goddess Shashti and her consort Karttikeya.
