Description

PTOLEMAIC KINGS OF EGYPT. Ptolemy VIII Euergetes II (Physcon), second reign, 145-116 BC. Drachm (Bronze, 42 mm, 67.27 g, 12 h), Kyrene. Diademed head of Zeus Ammon to right, with ram's horn in his hair and over the diadem. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΠTOΛEMAIOY EYEPΓETOY Eagle standing right on thunderbolt, wings spread; to right, Φ. SNG Copenhagen -, cf. 651 (lighter weight). Svoronos 1641. Weiser -. Very rare. An unusually well struck and clear example. Minor areas of flatness, otherwise, good very fine.
