O / Γ/Є/O-P/OΓC/I Saint George, standing facing, nimbate, holding spear in his right hand, and resting left hand on a shield. Rev. [+KЄ R,Θ,] / IⲰ VΠA/TON S Π[P]/ONOIT/ON. Unpublished in the standard references, but cf. an unpublished seal in Dumbarton Oaks with the same name and titles: BZS.1951.31.5.312. A splendid depiction of Saint George on a seal of a Byzantine bureaucrat with a rarely encountered office. Very fine.

The office of pronoetes was used for estate supervisors. In the provinces, they were officials with with fiscal or administrative duties.
