★ Konstantinos, metropolitan bishop of Tiberioupolis ★
Konstantinos, metropolitan bishop of Tiberioupolis, 11th century. Seal (Lead, 18 mm, 8.08 g, 12 h). M-[X] Nimbate facing bust of St. Michael, holding trefoil scepter in his right hand and globus cruciger in his left. Rev. +KЄ RO/[H]ΘЄI KⲰN / [Є]ΛAXHCTO / THRЄPI૪/ΠOΛЄO' ("Lord, help Konstantinos, the least of the Tiberopolitans") in five lines. Web Auction 12 (2020), 1584. Cf. Zacos II 420. Good very fine.
The seal from the Zacos collection has a legend variation, but it is certainly from the same period and the styles are remarkably similar. Thus, both types likely belonged to the same bishop. The Zacos seal has 'metropolites' in the legend, whereas our seal uses a term of humility, 'elachistos', meaning the least, smallest or most insignificant.
