Description

★ Struck during the Parthian occupation of Antioch ★

SYRIA, Seleucis and Pieria. Antioch. Pseudo-autonomous issue. Tetrachalkon (Bronze, 24 mm, 12.06 g, 1 h), struck under Labienus and Pakoros during the Parthian occupation of Antioch, SE 272 = 41/0 BC. Laureate head of Zeus to right; to left, palm frond. Rev. ANTIOΧΕΩN / ΤΗΣ MHTΡO[ΠOΛ] - ΕΩΣ ΤΗΣ Ι[ΕΡΑΣ] / ΚΑΙ ΑΣΥ[ΛΟΥ] Zeus seated left, holding Nike in his right hand and scepter in his left; above, thunderbolt; to left and below throne, caps of Dioscuri with stars. McAlee 56-7. RPC I 4223-4. Minor scratch on the reverse, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
