Description

INDIA, Kushan Empire. Kanishka I, circa 127/8-152. Tetradrachm (Bronze, 18 mm, 4.07 g, 10 h), Main mint in Kapisha (Begram?). ÞAO ΚANηρKI ('King Kanishka' in Bactrian) Kanishka I standing front, head to left, sacrificing with his right hand over altar and holding trident in his left. Rev. 'NANA' (in Bactrian) Goddess Nana standing to right, nimbate, holding scepter in her right hand and box in her left; to lower left, tamgha. Göbl, type 806. Attractive earthen highlights. Slightly rough, otherwise, very fine.
