★ The finest of perhaps only three known examples ★
CARIA. Uncertain. Circa 450-400 BC. Tetartemorion (Silver, 7 mm, 0.28 g, 9 h). Facing forepart of a lion. Rev. Oinochoe to right within incuse square. HN online -. Obolos 15 (2020), 322 corr. (misdescribed as 'Prokonnesos (?)'). Naumann E-Auction 77 (2019), 266. SNG Kayhan -. SNG Keckman -. Extremely rare, the finest of perhaps only three known examples. Good very fine.
The similarities between this coin and contemporary hemioboloi from Mylasa suggests a Carian origin of the issue. Clearly the type cannot be attributed to Prokonnesos, as suggested in Obolos 14, 322, as the island used different obverse types and always placed its ethnic on the reverse.
