★ A beautiful tetradrachm from Messana ★

SICILY. Messana. 420-413 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 26 mm, 17.39 g, 7 h). MEΣΣANA The nymph Messana, wearing long chiton and holding reins in both hands, driving biga of mules to right; in exergue, two opposed dolphins. Rev. MEΣΣANION Hare springing to right; below, dolphin swimming right. Caltabiano - (unlisted die combination of D207/R221). A lightly toned piece of beautiful Classical style. Struck from the usual somewhat worn obverse die, otherwise, nearly extremely fine.
