Description

★ Reassigned to the Paramaras ★

INDIA, Medieval. Paramaras of Vidarbha. Late 12th century. Gadhaiya (Silver, 12 mm, 4.34 g). Highly stylized Sasanian head to right. Rev. Horseman galloping to right and brandishing sword with his right hand; to left, large bow. Deyell 167. Very fine.

From a collection of coins from Central Asia.

This issue is traditionally attributed to the Silaharas of the Konkan, but Maheshwari assigns it to the Paramaras and suggests it was issued to celebrate their recovery of Malwa in around 1190.
