ISLAMIC, Anatolia & al-Jazira (Post-Seljuk). Saltuquids. Diya' al-Din Ghazi, circa AH 518-526 / AD 1124-1132. Fals (Bronze, 24 mm, 6.25 g, 2 h), without mint and date. St. George, nimbate, on horseback to right, holding cross in his right hand; before him, dragon. Rev. Citing the Seljuq overlord Muhammad II ibn Mahmud by his laqab only: Mughith al-Din ('Helper of the Faith' in Arabic) within dotted circle. Album C1890. Very rare and in exceptional condition for this difficult issue. The obverse struck somewhat off center, otherwise, very fine.
The depiction of St. George on the obverse of this issue is reminiscent of the Crusader folles of Roger of Salerno struck a few years earlier (AD 1112-1119).
